Privacy Policy — Polaris System

Privacy and local data processing

Last updated: 12 October 2026

This English text is provided for convenience. If there is any discrepancy between this translation and the French version, the French version prevails.

This page describes Polaris System 1.30.28, the version currently distributed on the Mac App Store.

At Dream Industrie, Polaris System is designed so that this computer’s supervision information stays on this computer.

System metrics and supervision history are processed locally. They are not sent to Dream Industrie. No Polaris account is required.

Two builds exist: a version distributed through the App Store, with sandboxing; and a signed build for direct distribution. Some permissions and some application-activity measurements differ between builds. Material differences are noted below.

Some features open a help page in the browser after a voluntary action, or contact an Apple service to check connectivity. Those communications are described in the relevant sections. Dream Industrie cannot guarantee that recipients keep no logs of those requests.

Scope of this version

This text applies to Polaris System 1.30.28.

Compared with prototypes or earlier versions, this version no longer describes: the TEST lab and associated private readers; the speed test (including Cloudflare, OpenSpeedTest or a Dream Industrie server prototypes); a dedicated Trash feature for measuring or emptying Trash.

Moving items to Trash remains possible in some user-requested actions, in particular guided uninstallation. That is not a global emptying of system Trash.

Data collected by Dream Industrie

Polaris System does not transmit any personal data or supervision metrics from app use to Dream Industrie.

No user account is required.

Dream Industrie does not receive processor, memory, battery, power, storage, network, temperature, application or history data used by Polaris.

This information is not used for advertising, profiling or behavioural analysis by Dream Industrie.

Polaris has no Dream Industrie backend intended to receive this computer’s metrics.

Data processed locally

Polaris may process locally information relating in particular to:

  • processor load;
  • memory and memory pressure;
  • storage, volumes and folders the user has authorised for size measurement;
  • battery charge, health and cycles, and power characteristics reported by the system;
  • available temperature and thermal state reported by the system (this is not a measurement officially certified by Apple);
  • network activity (traffic actually used by this computer, from local interface counters);
  • active applications and, depending on the distribution, processes or energy activity;
  • application names, local paths and resource use, when needed for charts or guided uninstallation;
  • current clipboard content, only when that tool is used;
  • uptime;
  • user preferences;
  • history needed for charts.

This information is used to provide Polaris features. It remains stored or processed on the device.

Polaris does not scan the whole disk and does not read the contents of all documents. Examination of files or file metadata is limited to the features described below.

This data is not sent to Dream Industrie.

Local storage

Polaris stores certain preferences and history locally to provide its charts, indicators and settings.

This may include processor and memory history, temperature history, observed network-volume history, application activity, Quick Actions, menu-bar preferences, local keyboard-cleaning reminders, and access references for folders the user chose.

This data is not synced to a Dream Industrie account, a Polaris server, iCloud or CloudKit.

Battery, power, temperature and history

Polaris may process locally battery charge, health and cycles, power characteristics reported by the system, available temperature, and thermal state.

Displayed temperature comes from local readings. It is not presented as a measurement officially certified by Apple.

Local history feeds the charts. In the current code for this version:

  • processor and memory: compacted history (more detail over 24 hours, then widened up to 7 days, then widened further);
  • temperature: kept locally for up to 7 days;
  • observed network volumes: kept locally for about 8 days;
  • application activity: kept locally for about 7 days.

Samples used by the connectivity probe (a window of at most 10 samples) stay in memory. They are not written to disk and are discarded when that in-memory state is destroyed or the app quits.

Keyboard-cleaning session history can be cleared from that tool. This version does not offer a single command to erase every local file belonging to the app.

Uninstalling the app does not guarantee automatic deletion of all local files (preferences and support files). A complete wipe may require manually removing remaining app data on the device.

Network activity

The Network page shows “Network Activity” and “Current network usage”.

These values represent traffic actually used by this computer at a given moment, from local interface counters (bytes received and sent). They do not represent the maximum capacity of the connection.

No external connection is required to obtain these values. No data is sent to Dream Industrie.

Connectivity probe (Network page)

When the app is in the foreground and the Network page is visible, Polaris may automatically send a lightweight HTTPS request to estimate whether an internet destination responds, and how long that takes.

This probe is not a speed test. The value computed is the time of an HTTPS request (name resolution, connection setup, secure negotiation and response). It is not ICMP ping, not a user-facing jitter measurement, and not a full assessment of connection quality.

In this version the destination is Apple’s captive.apple.com service (https://captive.apple.com/hotspot-detect.html). The request uses HTTPS and the HEAD method. It has no body. It does not send processor, memory, battery, application lists, files, clipboard content or Polaris history. An application User-Agent header may be included, as with any HTTPS request.

Maximum frequency is about one request every 60 seconds.

The probe is active only when the Network page is visible and the app is in the foreground. It is suspended if the user leaves that page, if the app is in the background, if it runs only from the menu bar, or if the device sleeps.

As with any connection to an internet service, the public IP address and technical metadata needed to establish the connection may be visible to the recipient (here, Apple). Dream Industrie does not receive this information and cannot guarantee that Apple keeps no logs.

Results stay local.

Network Diagnostics

The “Network Diagnostics” tool is optional. It runs only after an explicit user action.

It checks locally for an active network interface, attempts DNS resolution of captive.apple.com, then the same HTTPS HEAD request to https://captive.apple.com/hotspot-detect.html.

The app may show “HTTPS response time”. That is the time of this request, not a ping and not a speed test.

In the current code, these steps do not contact any host other than captive.apple.com. That does not mean Apple is the only internet actor that may observe the connection: the local network, the internet provider and Apple may see the IP address and technical metadata. Dream Industrie does not receive the results.

Folder analysis and local access

The user can select certain folders so Polaris can measure their size. The measurement covers allocated space observed in the chosen folder; it is not a whole-disk scan, and not a reading of every document’s contents.

For this measurement, Polaris walks the authorised folder and uses filesystem metadata (structure, item names, allocated size). The app stores locally the access references it needs, including security-scoped bookmarks and associated paths. Those references are not sent to Dream Industrie.

“Remove access” forgets the stored access and associated local data in Polaris. It does not delete the folder. It is not a general revocation of system permissions: access still granted in system settings may remain until the user changes it there.

Other distinct features may examine paths or files in a narrower scope: guided uninstallation, to list items associated with a chosen app; the clipboard, for a preview of current content. Those features are not a general reading of all documents.

Moving items to Trash

There is no longer a dedicated Trash feature to measure or empty system Trash.

Some user-requested actions, in particular guided uninstallation, may move items to Trash. Polaris does not empty Trash on the user’s behalf.

Clipboard

When the user uses the clipboard tool, Polaris may read current content to make it easier to review or clear.

The preview is processed in memory. Content is not historised by Polaris and is not transmitted to Dream Industrie.

System permissions

Some features may request system permissions. They remain under user control.

System permissions are managed in system settings. Access remembered by Polaris (for example a folder chosen for size measurement) is removed in the app, via “Remove access”. That is not the same operation.

A capability present in a build does not mean a permission prompt is shown on every launch.

These permissions do not allow Dream Industrie to retrieve data processed locally by Polaris.

App Store distribution (sandboxed)

Keyboard cleaning does not require the Accessibility permission and does not globally intercept system keys. It uses an overlay mode: only keystrokes received by Polaris are absorbed locally during the mode. Some keys handled by the system (for example volume or brightness) may remain active.

File access relies in particular on user selection (folders to measure, items related to guided uninstallation).

Polaris may use automation for certain explicitly requested actions, within what the sandbox allows.

Notifications used for keyboard-cleaning reminders are local. No remote push system is used.

In this build, the application-activity ranking uses processor activity of accessible apps, not detailed energy measurements of other apps.

Direct distribution

This build does not use the App Store sandbox.

Keyboard cleaning may request the Accessibility permission in order to intercept keys temporarily at system level during cleaning mode, and to detect Escape held to exit. Without that permission, this keyboard-cleaning mode does not work; the rest of Polaris remains usable.

When available, energy impact per application may use energy billed by the system.

Some system-tool actions (for example relaunching Finder) and some reading or changing of login items via System Events are offered only in this build, always at the user’s request.

Keyboard-cleaning reminders remain local notifications.

Third-party services

Polaris integrates no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and no third-party crash reporting.

There is no Polaris backend or Dream Industrie service collecting supervision metrics.

No speed test to Cloudflare, OpenSpeedTest or a Dream Industrie server is kept in this version.

Apple — requests made by Polaris

Polaris may contact captive.apple.com: automatically, with an HTTPS HEAD request, when the Network page is visible in the foreground; and during user-started Network Diagnostics (DNS resolution then the same HTTPS request).

Apple — user navigation

Some help links open Apple Support pages (support.apple.com) in the browser, only after a voluntary action. This is not data collection by Dream Industrie.

Advertising and tracking

Polaris includes no advertising.

Polaris performs no cross-app or cross-site tracking.

Polaris integrates no Dream Industrie analytics or telemetry SDKs.

Polaris integrates no remote crash reporting service.

Dream Industrie does not use Polaris to build a marketing profile of its users.

User account

No Polaris account is required.

Polaris does not ask for an identifier, password, Apple ID or Dream Industrie user profile to function.

iCloud and CloudKit

Polaris does not use iCloud or CloudKit to sync supervision metrics or preferences.

Children

Polaris is a system supervision utility. It is not specifically designed for children.

The app requires no account. Dream Industrie does not intentionally collect personal data about users through Polaris.

Retention

History and preferences needed for the app to work are kept locally, according to the technical windows described above.

There is no single retention period for all data. Some series are compacted over time; others remain until the app’s files are deleted.

Connectivity-probe samples stay in memory only.

Sale and sharing of data

Dream Industrie does not sell Polaris users’ personal data.

Metrics processed locally are not shared with Dream Industrie for advertising or commercial purposes.

The only network communications described here are to provide the requested feature (connectivity probe, diagnostic, or voluntarily opening a help page). They are not a sharing of supervision metrics with Dream Industrie.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes to Polaris, its features or applicable requirements.
